Like
Ancient Gaul, circuses and polo games, this site is divided into
three
pieces. All three will help you to explore the coastal land cover,
water resource and coastal habitat information collected by Focus
on the Coast
partners. The three sites use related but different mapping technologies,
each suitable for different tasks and users of differing degrees
of sophistication. [Not sure which one to use? CLICK
HERE]. We have
customized each site to make it easy to use,
but if youre
like some of us you may need remedial help. If youre
really stuck, please contact the UConn
Geospatial Extension Program for help.
Option
1: Explore Interactive Maps Online
The Explore
Your Coast page uses a related but different technology to
view maps over the internet without downloading anything. This
site will allow you to perform basic geographic information system
queries and commands, live on-line. Also, for those of you interested
in regional or multi-town areas, you will be able to zoom in and
out, from the local level to the entire coast. So, you can explore
our coastal resource data in different combinations, and at different
scales.
Option
2: Download Map Package
The Got
Maps? page contains sets of coastal resource maps for each
of Connecticut's 37 coastal municipalities in ArcReader format,
which
is similar to having a text document in "pdf" format. You
will need to download the free ArcReader software to use these maps.
However, in exchange for your trouble, you will get an interactive
map document that will allow you, within limits, to customize your
maps and print them out in many different combinations—in
effect, many maps in one flexible package!
Option
3: Explore Our Maps with Your Maps
If
you like the interactive maps, you can download a free software
which allows you to work with the online maps AND your own data
together. Visit the Explore Our Maps with
Your Maps page to learn more about this option.
